Hi, I’m Selman. I enjoy understanding how the things that catch my curiosity work, discovering new routes, and sharing what I learn. Engineering, technology, and the sea accompany me in different parts of life; this page is a personal space where they come together.
From engineering to OT security
Throughout my career, I’ve had the chance to work across several areas of cybersecurity, get to know a wide range of technologies, and find answers to many kinds of problems.
When something catches my curiosity, I tend to go a little too deep. I enjoy understanding how it works and discovering where what I learn intersects with other fields.
Outside work...
The sea, motorcycles, camper travel, and journeys are not separate interests to me. At the heart of all of them is the same feeling: freedom. Being able to choose my own course, change direction when I need to, and move toward whatever sparks my curiosity… I think what truly draws me to them is being able to belong somewhere without being bound to it.
The sea and sailing hold a special place in my life. Being on a boat means reading the wind and waves, working out route and timing, making decisions in the moment, and sometimes repairing whatever has stopped working with the tools at hand. From navigation and meteorology to mechanics, electricity, and electronics, it is a world that constantly keeps my technical curiosity alive.
Another thing I love about sailing is that I can never quite say, “I’ve learned it all.” The weather, the sea, and the boat teach you something different every time. Sometimes you are thinking about the route; at others, you are standing over something that has failed, asking, “Why did this happen?”
That curiosity fits naturally with electronics. I enjoy working with circuits, bringing small ideas to life with microcontrollers, and occasionally designing my own boards. More recently, 3D design and printing joined the list. Designing something in my head and holding it as a physical object a few hours later still feels a little like science fiction.
Camper travel, camping, and journeys are some of my favorite ways to step outside the routine. Sometimes I enjoy the road itself as much as reaching somewhere new. I have also long been drawn to the direct connection motorcycles offer with engineering and mechanics. With so much technology in my life, you might expect me to get away from screens—but at the end of the day, I sometimes sit down at the computer purely for fun and find myself in a match of Dota 2. :)
Why does this site exist?
This site is not a new idea. For a long time, I wanted one place to collect what I learn, the experience I gain, the subjects that catch my interest, and some memories I may want to revisit years from now. But it remained one of those projects I kept saying I would do “one day.”
If something I spent hours researching can make another person’s work easier in a few minutes, I believe it is worth sharing.
What this site is about
Probably a little bit of everything. This site revolves around cybersecurity, OT/ICS, industrial systems, networking, and engineering, but it is not only a professional technical publication.
It moves from the communication architecture of a substation to something I learned at sea, from a small electronics project to a problem solved with a 3D printer or a story from the road. One simple thing connects all of it: curiosity.
